Common questions
- Is Mealish free?
- Yes — you get 3 free AI-powered recipe imports from social videos (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube) plus unlimited imports from recipe blogs and web pages, forever. Cooking buddy chat, pantry scan and unlimited social imports are part of Pro, from €2.50/month billed annually.
- Do I need to create an account?
- No account, no email, no password. Your recipes save to your phone. Family sharing uses a six-character code, not accounts. The only thing tied to anything is your App Store / Google Play purchase if you subscribe.
- What languages does Mealish work in?
- The app interface is in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Portuguese, Russian, Dutch, Turkish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified) and Arabic — 16 in total. AI extraction auto-detects the recipe language and can translate to yours with one tap.
- Does it work with Instagram reels and TikTok?
- Yes — both work via the system share sheet. Open a reel, tap Share, choose Mealish. Our AI reads the post captions, the video audio (if any), and the linked recipe page to extract a clean structured recipe.
- What happens to my data?
- Recipes save locally to your phone. AI extraction sends the URL (and only the URL) to our server to fetch and parse it — we don't store the recipe content on our side after sending it back. PostHog analytics collects anonymous usage events. We don't sell anything to anyone.
- Can I export my recipes if I stop using Mealish?
- Yes. Settings → Your data → Export as JSON-LD (the open recipe standard, works with most other apps and Google) or Export Mealish backup (full-fidelity JSON to re-import later). Your recipes are yours.
- iOS, Android, or both?
- Both. iOS 15+ on iPhone and iPad; Android 8+ on phones. The full feature set is available on both — saving from social, pantry scan, family sharing, cook mode, meal planning.
- How is this different from screenshotting recipes?
- A screenshot doesn't scale servings, doesn't generate a grocery list, doesn't set timers, doesn't translate. Mealish parses the recipe into structured data so you can actually cook from it — and find it again three months later via search.
